Though it doesn’t look like much, the incredibly light weight, street-legal Ariel Atom V8 sure packs a punch. Weighing only 1,350 lbs, it’s not wonder why the Atom is the fastest accelerating car in the world. The Atom’s V8 is composed of two Suzuki Hayabusa engines that create 500 bhp. Only 25 are made each year making it a very rare and unique supercar.

It comes as no surprise that the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is among the world’s fastest cars from 0-60 mph, as it is currently has the top speed among all production cars. Bugatti has stated that only 30 of the Super Sports’s will be made at a price of $2.4 million. Not much more can be said about the SS, other than that it is very fast.

Built by Caparo Vehicle Technologies, the T1 is a rear-wheel drive British two-seater. The T1 was based of off Formula 1 technology, and features a carbon fibre aerodynamic low drag body design. Unlike the Bugatti, the interior does not come with luxury amenities and technology, but who needs it when the car only weighs 1,000 lbs and doesn’t cost nearly as much.

Manufactured by Ultima Sports Ltd in Leicestershire, England, the Ultima GTR can be bought in kit form or can be bought pre-assembled by the factory. The Ultima GTR is a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive car that uses a Chevrolet small block V8 when bought pre-assembled. The chassis is made up a tubular steel space frame that allows the car to be light and quick.

Sporting a dual orange and black color scheme, the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Car comes equipped with a quad-turbocharged 7.9-liter W16 engine that produces 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matted to a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. Along with a top speed of 254.04 mph (408.84 km/h) the model can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 2.6 seconds.

It wouldn’t be a top ten list for acceleration without a Nissan GT-R. Though this is not a normal GT-R, it is the GT-R Track Pack. Designed for “drivers who want an extra edge on the race track”, the Track Pack boasts sportier suspension, better cooling for the brakes, and a set of lighter six-spoke alloy wheels, while still be road legal. Some how this Nissan GT-R has managed a verified 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds, even though the Track Pack comes with no engine enhancements. The GT-R Track Pack is one second to two seconds faster from 0-60 than the stock GT-R. However the package is an additional $15,000 more than the stock version.

The 2,700 lb Venom GT is based on a highly modified Lotus Exige chassis that uses a powerful Twin Turbocharged V8 to propel it to a time of 2.5 seconds from 0-60 mph. The American based, Hennessey Performance Engineering made one hell of car, when not only does it have a blistering 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds but just recently broke the record for 0-186 mph in just 13.63. and has a new top speed of 265.7 mph.

. Steve Saleen is the founder of Saleen, Inc which produces American supercars. Arguably Saleen’s greatest achievements, the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo which was an updated revision of the original and successful S7. However Saleen decided to strap a pair of turbochargers on the car, thus giving it much more power, and enabling a 0-60 time of just 2.8 seconds

Assembled in Banbury, England, this British supercar was designed by a Dutch millionaire by the name of Klaas Zwart. The A10 shares the same basic carbon fibre chassis as the KZ1, a race car that participated in the Spanish GT Championships. As of today only 50 were ever made.

The Lamborghini Veneno just makes it on our list for the fastest cars from 0-60 mph. Lamborghini went ahead and upgraded the Aventador’s 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 to produce 750 horsepower and strapped in a seven-speed ISR robotized manual gearbox which is then connected to an all-wheel drive system. Top speed is claimed to be 221 mph and a 0-60 is projected to be around 2.8 seconds.
