-No. Visa is not status. Valid status means the I-94 duration/validity. If your I-94 expires, then your non-immigrant status also expires.

在申訴期間我們可以合法繼續呆在美國，孩子可以繼續上學嗎？-Yes, but if you fail in the I-290B Motion or appeal, then your illegal stay will be counted from the day your I-485 is denied unless you have an valid non-immigrant status such as H-1/H-4, F-1/F-2 etc.
