Partially agree with XBT. Both my hu*****and and I have Ph.D, he has a very common name, while mine is very unusual. His NC was cleared quickly, but mine is pending since March, 2007. I guess the reason is my name must be in FBI's record because the security background check is required every two years by my institution. On the other hand, among my colleagues in the same institution, big percentage of Chinese got NC pending for 2 to 3 years or longer, while those from other countries normally get their green card within one year.
