I don't want to get into detail, but the story is the response of part-time AWD is fast enough to catch up any slippy condition. Basically it calculates the rotation difference between 4 wheels, which should be exact same under normal condition. On snow or rainy road, 4 wheels will rotate differently. If there is tiny difference (less than 1 turn), AWD mechanism will kick in to help by power 2 back wheels. What AWD (full-time / part-time) does is to increase traction with the road. Full-time AWD does, you know, all the time; while part-time does it, you know, by need.
it is safe from what I have read.
