you must have a rather low pitched roof. That's exactly where ice dam is more likely to occur. Since the eave is low (one storey) it is easy to install electric heating elements above the eave to melt the ice when ice dam happens.

Next time when you change roof shingles you can get more water-proof ice and water installed along the eave.
