Yesterday marked a true milestone for my 8 year old daughter and me - it's the very first time the two of us spent a whole day shopping for clothes together with her happily going along. She was not at all interested in clothes shopping until perhaps a few weeks ago when she declared that her new favorite color would be green. She still likes blue, but green is now on the top of her list. It was then she asked me to take her shopping for green colored clothes..
Yesterday presented a perfect opportunity. Daddy wanted to stay home watching some soccer game, so the plan was that the boys would stay home, and the girls would go to the mall.
It was about 10 minutes to 11am by the time we walked into the mall. All the shops were seemingly not yet open except for the cookie place. So we treated ourselves, my daughter having a cookie cup and myself my usual, a chocolate chip walnut cookie. What a great start!
Gymboree was the first store we walked in.. Some cute green tops but no luck finding her dream green dress.. 3 hours later my daughter was quite happy to have the following in her bags..
The last one meant to show the blue head band that would go perfectly with an old blue top of hers..
I tried not to exert my judgement on her choices and let her be the decision maker in terms of what she'd like to wear :-).
We had lunch at the food court. She had California rolls, and I Panda Express..
All along, my daughter was in high spirit and really enjoyed trying on clothes, a stark departure from her past behavior..
I also did a bit of shopping for myself, mostly trying to find some belts. My problem is and has always been to find a belt that's my size. Most of them, even Size Small, are a bit too big for me..
The last store we went in before leaving was Ann Taylor. My daughter spotted this coral/black belt and told me that she liked it and I should buy it. I tried it on, it actually fitted pretty well.. And then I spotted this coral or orange color dress that's was calling my name :-). The belt went perfectly with the dress. I told the sales lady that my daughter picked out the belt, and she said to my daughter, "we should hire you..". I could see that my daughter was quite proud..
She also liked the dress very much and actually put one on while I was trying a different size.. I told her that this store is unfortunately all for grownups. She then said that she would write a note to Ann Taylor and suggest that they open an Ann Taylor Junior store, which I thought was really cute and quite business savvy for an eight year old.:-).

After we got home, the first thing my daughter did was to go to Anntaylor.com to write the note. I told her she could give her feedback to Ann Taylor that way.
Here is the note she wrote and sent to Ann Taylor's Customer Service department..
Dear Ann Taylor staff,
I think you should open a new store called Ann Taylor Jr. so kids can wear mini versions of the clothes their parents buy at Ann Taylor.I hope you like my idea!
