-If they apply for the immigrant visa in China and they use the immigrant visa to enter US, then they will become the green card holder immediately after they enter US. Thus, they don't need to file I-485. The kid may just file I-485 in US after the mother enters US because you don't know how long he/she needs to wait for the visa in China.
