30 days is a little too long for visa application.

You should verify your application is sent to the embassy first. If you sent it through a travel agent, contact your agent. If you sent it yourself through post office, can you check with post office?

My experience with getting Chinese visa is not bad, all my applications are done through a local travel agent smoothly and quickly. Having said that, I think Chinese embassies are notoriously difficult to interact with. The only thing I can say is looking through their web site and find all the possible means to contact them,  phone number, email, and keep trying till you get through.
