為一個朋友,他在國家地理雜誌上看了篇很詆毀中國的文章,很氣憤,號召大家都寫信抗議

NG published a disgusting article in the December issue on Xinjiang's recent riot: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/12/uygurs/teague-text I'm so angry that I decided to write a letter to the editor (see below), Chris Johns (email: ngsforum@nationalgeographic.com ), please send your email and voice your opinion .

Dear Editor Chris Johns ,

I’m a long time subscriber to NG. I have truly enjoyed reading every issue of your magazine until the December issue. The featured article in this issue, The Other Tibet, has appalled me. Like many others in the world, I view the riot in Xinjiang last July nothing less than an act of terrorism: for weeks innocent people were attacked or killed, businesses were assaulted, and the region was terrified, by a small group of terrorists who were mostly Uygurs. As far as I could tell based on the facts, the local and central Chinese government exhibited well acclaimed control in use of forces, and few complained about the way the government handled the riot.

What puzzles me the most about this article is not how the author, Matthew Teague, wrote the article with his personal peculiar angle in the observation of the incidence, biased opinion towards Han Chinese and the Chinese government, unbalance coverage of the confrontation and unjustified conclusion which was not based on complete and accurate facts, but rather your magazine’s stand and your personal note on the article which, in my opinion, violates your magazine’s long time principle in apolitical, unbiased and objective coverage of important issues in both natural and human world. Although I find many social aspects in this article interesting and educational, I think the author’s intention to paint a politically biased image on this incidence is unfortunate and wrong.

Therefore, I demand you as an editor of this issue, apologize to readers for the improper publication of the article, The Other Tibet .

Sincerely yours,

Dr He, Ph.D.

無恥近乎勇二叔 回複 悄悄話 "Therefore, I demand you as an editor of this issue, apologize to readers for the improper publication of the article, The Other Tibet."---此老受文革遺害甚重。
jwayne_1 回複 悄悄話 by the way, i don't think it is justified to demand apology to the readers. everyone can have an opinion. if someone else's opinion does not agree with yours, apology is required, that's not democracy.
jwayne_1 回複 悄悄話 i was angry when i just start reading the article. after i finished, i calmed down. to be honest, it is not too badly written. way better than people's daily. anyway, sending a letter to them is the right way; stop reading the magazine is not smart.
I was also very angry after reading that article (Another Tibet). Please forward my thanks to your friend Dr He. It would be nice if somebody can organize a co-sign of such letters, which is much easier and more effective than people writing protest letters separately. Please let us know if NG ever replies to Dr He. I wrote a similar letter to TIME a year ago to protest their biased report on China's preparation for the Olympics Games, but the magazine did not even acknowledge the receiving of my email.
