Bogged Down in Mud, Torrential Rains, and Bombs

Live from Ukraine ????????
Ivano-Frankivsk Russian terror continues to engulf peaceful cities across Ukraine with unprecedented violence. Yesterday, Moscows air force once again struck railway infrastructure in the Chernihiv region, forcing the national carrier Ukrzaliznytsia to deploy backup diesel locomotives for trains headed to Sumy due to a power outage in the Nizhyn section.
Twenty-four hours earlier, a barrage of Russian and Iranian drones hit Dnipro in broad daylight, damaging a medical center, a pediatric dental clinic, an apartment building, a dormitory, and a cultural center. One civilian was killed, and thirty others, including a 10-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were injured.
At the same time, another Russian FPV drone aimed directly at a Ukrainian civilian couple traveling in Sumy with their two children, killing the entire family. Another 54 similar attacks were recorded in that oblast, with no distinction made between military and civilian targets. As evening fell, 15 massive explosions shook Kharkiv, destroying a dozen homes in the Saltivka and Kyivskyj districts and setting several shopping malls covering a 2,800-square-meter area within the Barabashovo market ablaze. These were glide bombs, each containing at least 250 kg of explosives, intentionally launched against Europes largest open-air shopping center. Avideowe recorded from there for the YouTube channel website of the Italian newspaper La Ragione highlights the sheer intent of the attacks on that infrastructure, which has been hit on eight separate occasions since the start of the war.
Walking among the ruins of those pavilions after the second-to-last attack on that bazaar, we already explained before the summer thatthe goal of those who order such strikes is to destroy not only that massive civilian infrastructure but also the hundreds of jobs it creates, destroying just as many small businesses that support the countrys economy.
Throughout the night, the Russian Federation continued bombing the nearby Chuhuiv district yesterday, destroying a dozen homes and reducing more than 35 garages and as many cars to smoking metal. The number of injuries is difficult to determine, since rescue and firefighting operations are still ongoing at the time of this articles delivery, but at least eight civilians and a police officer are known to be in serious condition.
The bad weather has worsened the damage. It has been raining nonstop in Ukraine for days now, forcing volunteers and firefighters to rush to evacuate people trapped in rubble and others caught by floods.
In Odesa alone, nine deaths have been reported, with 362 last-minute rescues amid bombs and torrential rain.
Bogged down at the front, Russian troops continue to suffer losses on every side, unable to provide support to any of the contingents the Ukrainians have surrounded.
In that hell of mud and rubble, the time is kept by the nuclear clock of a power plant that has been disconnected from the grid for eight days. One of the secondary diesel generators supplying electricity to the Enerhodar plant held hostage by the Russians is broken, and the remaining ones have never functioned for so long, the Ukrainian President announced in an appeal aimed at underscoring the criticality of the situation.
The hope is that the one who has ended up bogged down at the head of an equally shut-down government will grasp this, precisely when concrete political decisions are needed.
The diplomatic approach has failed, and starting with the Tomahawk missiles, theres renewed talk of massive arms injections into Ukraine to make Putin understand that he has failed, in the only language he knows. This was clear from the beginning, butto please the current American administration, weve ended up stuck in a limbo of waiting and half-hearted decisions, with no progress for another nine months. What Ukraine cannot afford is for further political distraction in Washington to compromise Americas already fragile responsiveness to Russian aggression.
