We are a (free) member on Flickr - a photo sharing website used by people around the world. Each year in the Dec holiday season, Flickr will host a "your best shot of the year" contest and select the top 25 among the best to show all. One particular winning photo in the "Top 25 of 2020" caught my eye and my heart. It was titled "Happy Birthday Adam!" by Iwona Podlasińska from Poland (see photo below), with a moving description:
"I remember this day very clearly because things weren’t as they usually are. I remember I didn’t have my car, and I had to take my son to the speech therapist that day, and we took the bus, which was a great adventure for my son as we usually use cars. We came back home earlier than usual. I was doing something around the house when I noticed that my son Adam watched TV, sitting on the floor, petting the cat with one hand. The cat was on the couch. It was a sunny day, and they seemed to shimmer in that light […] I think I asked him to touch the cat’s nose with his nose. I immediately knew I would love this photo."
We also have a (rescued) cat at home and we love him to death. So I took out my drawing board, paper, pencil, and drew this photo using our own cat as a model (he didn't like it, but obeyed as a good boy usually does).
When finished, I sent a photo of my drawing to Iwona, to show my respect and appreciation of her beautiful original photo.

這兩張圖技術上很明顯是：先畫好綫條然後再有限的空間裏慢慢“填表格”一樣的上色。既然是"limited volume"，那不妨往精巧的方向發揮（而不是‘宏大’的寫意或高深的意境那種——這也是油畫／山水畫大家喜歡做的）。因此我隻說些能說的純粹技術性的事……
如果是自己調的色的話。。。
比如第一圖我可能會用更深的帶一絲暗紅的棕黑色（就是：檀木家具那種色），然後我淺的部分我會使用更多接近白色的（Tan或Khaki混合純白）——突出森林的幽暗與陽光照明。
第二圖沃會選擇更灰些的色調來畫牆壁的顔色，而屋頂我不會這麽“粉”。而是調成種“明亮的鐵灰粉”為底色然後再混合第一圖那種棕色——50-50，然後再稀釋——來畫影子的部分。
……總之我握筆如執劍，而且下筆時／後我在那一筆畫完之前是不會眨眼的。
反正這是我對（悶搔風的）德意誌Neo-Romanticism和北歐（性冷淡風的）National-Romanticism（的水彩畫的基本技巧）的理解（我不知道你畫畫的‘追求’，也就瞎評一下）。

所以一般美術學院基本很難進。和大學不同，一般的高中好文憑根本沒用；就要看畫工——怎麽看取決於當年的申請sample的theme那種。畫完了還得寫個written presentation表達創作概念。guess what? 等我一進之後發現，全是我在哲學課上的同學。
明白你的意思，不過覺得數學和藝術（除音樂外）還是有不同的，類似於理性和感性的概念不同。
還覺得畫畫者有兩類之分：工匠和藝術家。一個好的藝術家應該也具備工匠的技能；但不是每一個工匠，即使有很好的技能，都能成為藝術家。希特勒的畫我看的不多，或許可能還是在工匠之類？
我自己是非常懶惰和業餘的，所以不覺得此生能達到工匠的水平。But maybe in the next life? hahaha.
我也試過水彩畫。加放兩張在上麵讓你看看笑笑哈。I will take them off afterwards, for another future post (possibly).
Btw，tell you a secret: 希特勒沒考上純屬腦殘一根筋。因為同樣的投稿sample它要是報考設計學院一準早被錄取了，希特勒那套繪畫原則是Futurist學派的，強調建築宏偉而無視人體的美——偏偏這套審美取向又是維也納美院最不屑的（至今依然是）。
美術學院一般招生會出個幾個theme，然後讓學生自己依照theme自由的畫去——一般指定必須多少個素描（比如：五張畫必需三張是素描）。因此被錄取者一般默認你會素描。
而那套細分油畫、素描等等現場考試的那套大陸的美術學院的方式是……蘇維埃搞出來的。蘇維埃的那套名為審美實則審醜的美術觀因為沒有想象力，反而特別喜歡強調素描基本功。
而諷刺的是蘇維埃和納粹在美術的審美上全都是拾futurism玩剩下的牙慧，原始伊斯蘭反而反對畫人臉——波斯被伊斯蘭征服之後，藍色染料因為被禁止用來藝術創作，結果隻能販賣到中國，成就了兩宋和以後青花瓷（對，好的青花瓷的青色其實用的是波斯藍）。
Shiraz葡萄酒是波斯地名，實際上真正在本土滅絕是1979年以後——一個道理。
據說現在（西方）的美院不很強調素描了。我自己覺得素描是功底，必要打紮實了才好去作別的畫。特別是我在Antibes的Picasso美術館裏看到了他早期很震撼的素描，才明白他的抽象畫後麵是有多麽深的素描底子嗬。
But I am not a real artist, just do it for fun, and only do it if an image moves me.

是那張照片太動人了，好像不畫不行。其實我的業餘“技術”很一般，但畫著讓我動心了的畫，慢慢地覺得畫中人和貓咪一點兒一點兒地活了起來，到最後覺得不是我在畫，而是畫在推著我的筆畫，那種感覺非常“奇妙”非常享受嗬。
