直到世界反應了靈魂最深處的需要

這可能是Louise Gluck最驚人的一句詩，或許因此國內出版她的詩集時，用了這句做書名：《直到世界反應了靈魂最深層的需要》（當然囉，我覺得把“層”改為“處”更具詩意）。這樣的句子，也恰是讀詩的最大樂趣之一，跟著詩人的指引-經由他們構造的意像，聲音，漫遊的思路-一路到達“思考可抵達、知覺不可抵達的”，“靈魂可抵達、身軀不可抵達的”，“文字可抵達，話語不可抵達的”的世外之處，然後bang! 遇到這種水落石出般的，驚魂一瞥般的，石破天驚般的一句，你不由得擊掌讚歎，所有的蜿蜒閱讀如此值得！

直到世界反應了靈魂最深處的需要 - 正是詩人們的使命，或許因此Gluck經常反複就同一個題目寫，或寫已經被反複吟誦的， 比如這段鄉愁：

The summer night glowed; in the field, fireflies were glinting./夏夜灑下光輝，田間螢火蟲在閃爍

And for those who understood such things, the stars were sending messages:/對那些懂的心靈，群星送出信息：

Omens

I rode to meet you: dreams

like living beings swarmed around me
