Every morning after I wake up, the first thing I do is play PBS news hour from Youtube. Then brush my teeth, take a shower, eat breakfast. This Morning when I listened to the show, I heard one of the interviewees was talking about something like “This is the United States, not Banana republic” . What does “ Banana republic” means here? I heard the term before. I only know of a clothing store called “ Banana republic”.
I went hiking all day long. The weather is so nice. I enjoyed the landscape very much. But I was exhausted when I came back home.
Finally I got a chance to check the term on google. Here is the explanation:
In political science, the term banana republic describes a politically unstable country with an economy dependent upon the exportation of a limited-resource product, such as bananas or minerals.
Ha, the United States is indeed not a Banana republic. Everything will be alright!
