A Beautiful Place for My Dad
By Jade
Today, I checked out a place for my dad
Spacious living room with a fireplace and a piano
I would play a tune or two for him during each visit
“Your piano is getting better”, he would say
A sunroom with comfortable chairs, and
fresh cut flowers on the table, where
he would read history books in sunset
lost in the fire and smoke of his own glorious past
Bird feeders hanging outside the window
a squirrel is eating bird seeds with no guilt at all
my dad would adopt them, as he usually does
A courtyard with fountains and butterfly bushes
looping around the house is a botanical walk
with a rain garden and a pollinator garden
My dad is not a gardener, but
he raised three daughters, who became
two business professors and one corporate executive
he certainly knows a little about growing flowers
Tomorrow, my dad will move to this place
for hospice care, a place where
his last breath will dance with angels in thin air
A place, where I would visit often, for years to come
looking for his smile in “magic lilies”, and
hearing his gentle voices in fountains and wind chimes
