《 An Envoy to the Frontiers 》
    by Wangwei, from Tang dynasty 
       
Riding in a carriage to the frontiers, expressing solicitude,
Passing Juyan, a vassal state, on the road.
   
Like Halogeton  grass swaying in the wind, far away from Han villages, 
Like Geese flying to the north, entering foreign land.
   
A plume of smoke is rising in the vast desert, up straight,
The sun is descending into the Yellow River, blazing round. 
    
Only to meet defensive cavalry after arrived at the Xiao pass,
All generals are still at the Yanran battlefield.

單車欲問邊，屬國過居延。 
征蓬出漢塞，歸雁入胡天。 
大漠孤煙直，長河落日圓。 
蕭關逢候騎，都護在燕然。
