天鵝
那些勞作 那些還未完成的事情
是我們的牽絆，束縛著我們的手腳
我們踽踽而行 如天鵝一般步履蹣跚

This laboring through what is still undone,
as though, legs bound, we hobbled along the way,
is like the awkward walking of the swan.
And dying-to let go, no longer feel

draw back past him in streams on either side;
while, infinitely silent and aware,
in his full majesty and ever more
indifferent, he condescends to glide.

我原來也以為是寫天鵝，其實是寫人活著和死亡的狀態。第一段寫活著的狀態，第二段是由生到死，對生的狀態的脫離和對死亡狀態的猶疑。 第三段是寫死亡的狀態，脫離生的苦痛和牽絆，進入死（虛無）的自由態。水是死神的象征。
裏爾克生命的最後幾年受病痛煎熬，在他的眼裏，死是一種自由和解脫 ：）
