Lucky Scots couple win £25,000 dream wedding with board game shenanigans
THE Old Course Hotel in St Andrews ran the competition and Joanne Hodge and Brian McNicol both jumped right into the challenge.
A LUCKY couple won a £25,000 luxury wedding after creating a board game based on their upcoming nuptials.
Joanne Hodge and Brian McNicol, entered the competition, run by the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews, after a friend suggested it.
The couple, from Dundee, had to make a video and wedding box using social media.
Joanne, 31, loves The Game of Life board game, where players have to navigate the twists and turns of life – and she used this as inspiration to create her own game as part of their entry.
As the couple moved around the board they each had to participate in challenges chosen by friends and family on social media.
One roll of the dice led to them dressing up as Prince William and Kate and posing on the iconic Swilcan Bridge, on the Old Course during the British Open.
And Brian was challenged with experiencing a wedding from the bride’s point of view – complete with waxing and dress fitting.
The final task saw Joanne and Brian take part in a “blackening” when they were colour-bombed on Magdalen Green in Dundee.
As well finishing the game in style the couple, who have sons Zack, 3, and one-year-old Ethan, also aised £700 for the Cash for Kids charity.
Joanne said: “Finding out we had won was incredible, at first I just couldn’t believe it.
“We had so much fun taking part in the competition, getting our friends and family involved.
“I am overwhelmed to be able to say I am getting married at the Old Course Hotel next year, it’s not something I ever expected to happen to us.”
Brian added: “Some of the challenges our friends and family voted for us to take part in were crazy.
“My first was to experience what it was like to be a bride – this meant everything from waxing to a bridal dress fitting.
“I went with my Dad for the fitting and we had a right laugh, so did all my friends.
“Joanne was challenged to face her fear of animals and this involved an extremely fun day at the St Andrews Aquarium.”
The prize includes a five-star reception and honeymoon, a bridal gown and three bridesmaid dresses, photography and flowers.
