Canadas final 22-man roster for the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship is finally set, as head coach Don Hay and Hockey Canada head scout Kevin Predergast made their last round of cuts on Wednesday morning.
Chris Myers Authentic Jersey . Medicine Hat Tigers netminder Tyler Bunz and Louis Domingue of the Quebec Remparts were sent back to junior, leaving 2011 returnee Mark Visentin as the starting goaltender and Plymouths Scott Wedgewood in the backup role. On the blueline, Alex Petrovic of the Red Deer Rebels, Kitchener Rangers defenceman Ryan Murphy, Portlands Joe Morrow and Ottawas Cody Ceci didnt make the final cut. "I was kind of in a deep sleep," Petrovic said about the disappointing phone call early in the morning. "I had a little dream of actually waking up and making the team, but I got the call. Obviously, its a heartbreak." For Murphy, TSN hockey analyst Ray Ferraro thought there wasnt enough risk and there wasnt enough reward for him at camp. "Murphy is a tremendously skilled puck mover - hes high risk and high reward," Ferraro said. "I dont know that hes 100 percent all the way back and in the final battle for the guy thats going to run the power-play and be the offensive minded defenceman, Nathan Beaulieu of Saint John of the Quebec League really stood out. If it came down to those two players, Beaulieu beat out Murphy." Murphy was a 12th overall draft selection of the Carolina Hurricanes this year. "Its pretty difficult," Murphy said. "Getting woken up at 6 a.m. is not the easiest thing and knowing its you and not your roommate is also not an easy thing. Ill be back next year maybe and hopefully make the team then." With no returning players from last years squad on the blue line, Canadas defence will consist of newcomers Mark Pysyk, Nathan Beaulieu, Jamie Oleksiak, Scott Harrington, Ryan Murray, Dougie Hamilton and Brandon Gormley. "Most of these players have played at other high level events through Hockey Canadas programs in the past," Ferraro said. "I think they feel that their defending style will be good enough. I have to believe that at some point in the tournament youll wish you had an experienced guy, you just dont." Ottawa 67s winger Tyler Toffoli, Portland Winterhawks Brad Ross and Ty Rattie, Michigan winger Phil Di Giuseppe, Christian Thomas of the Oshawa Generals, Victoriavilles Phillip Danault and Brett Bulmer of the Kelowna Rockets were among the forwards sent home on Wednesday morning. "I was a little surprised that Phillip Danault was released. I thought he had a camp that got stronger as the days went on and thought hed be in the mix for that final forward spot," said Ferraro. Danault is 18 years old and will have another chance to make the team next year. "Im cut but I respect their decision," said Danault, who scored twice in an exhibition game. "If they win the gold medal, Ill respect it more for sure." Heading up the teams forward unit will be three returning players, Brett Connolly, Quinton Howden and Jaden Schwartz. Joining the trio will be Devante Smith-Pelley who was released by the Anaheim Ducks to play for Canada and Mark Scheifele, who was selected seventh overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Ottawa Senators prospect Mark Stone is on the club along with two prospects from the Montreal Canadiens, Michael Bournival and Brendan Gallagher. Ryan Strome, Boone Jenner, Jonathan Huberdeau and Freddie Hamilton are also with the team. Freddie and Dougie Hamilton become the first brothers to play for the Canadian team since Randy and Mike Moller in 1982. Tanner Pearson is the only 2012 draft eligible forward on the team. Canada will play exhibition games in Calgary, Red Deer, Alta., and Edmonton next week. They begin the World Junior Hockey Championship on Boxing Day against Finland.

Shane Lechler .Y. - Centre Corban Knight scored 3:30 into overtime, and the Abbotsford Heat rallied to edge the Utica Comets 5-4 on Wednesday in American Hockey League play.(CCA) - Braden Calvert and his Winnipeg team notched two more wins on Saturday, including a 6-5 victory over first-place Norway at the World Junior Curling Championships in Flims, Switzerland. "I guess well take the win after a game like that," said Calvert, who handed Norwegian skip Eirik Mjoeen his first loss of the round robin. "We got off to a bad start. I threw a really bad rock in five and we had to come back from that. Luckily, we did and we pulled through." After giving up consecutive steals and trailing 3-0 at the break, Calvert and his team of Kyle Kurz, Lucas Van Den Bosch, Brendan Wilson, alternate Matt Dunstone and coach Tom Clasper fought back in the sixth. Calvert made a tricky angle raise double to score two and followed that up with a steal of two in the seventh to go ahead. "That was huge in terms of the momentum we got from that shot," Calvert said about the double in the sixth end. "We gained a lot of confidence and basically got back at them." Against Switzerland, the Canadians "came prepared to play," according to Canadian Team Leader Andrea Ronnebeck. "The Swiss fans, as always, were enthusiastic but so were the Canadian fans," said Ronnebeck. "The arena was rocking (pun intended) with a full house of Norwegians, Swiss, Scots, Italians, Americans and Canadians. It was awesome. Cow bells and all!"& And the Canadian supporters had a lot to cheer for as Calvert led the team to a 7-2 win over Switzerlands Yannick Schwaller, improving Canadas record to 4-3 and moving them into a three-way tie for third place (with Scotlands Kyle Smith and Schwaller).
Devier Posey Authentic Jersey. "Were starting to get on a bit of a roll," said Calvert after the game. "Were starting to gain some momentum and confidence. We were really sharp out of the gate tonight and grabbed an early deuce. That was definitely the turning point in the game and we kept fighting and were able to pull it off. All the teams here are tough and each game is going to be a battle." On Sunday, the Canadian men will take on USAs Jake Vukich (2-5) and Austrias Sebastian Wunderer (3-4) to finish up the round robin. On the womens side, Kelsey Rocque defeated USAs Cory Christensen 8-4 to move into first place in the standings, tied with Korea, Switzerland and Russia, all with 5-2 records. Rocque and her Edmonton team of Keely Brown, Taylor McDonald, Claire Tully, alternate Alison Kotylak and coach Amanda-Dawn Coderre led the USA 6-4 after eight ends and scored a deuce in the ninth to put the game away. The Canadian women have now won three in a row and will try to keep the momentum going in their final games of the round robin on Sunday against Scotlands Gina Aitken (2-5) and Denmarks Christine Svensen (0-7).
