【早上拿本詩集翻到William Blake的 “Auguries of Innocence”那三頁,讓紮紮讀了一遍,看看他是否innocence依然/有共鳴/露靈氣/顯悟性什麽的。這回倒是沒讓老爸太失望,這小子乖乖從 頭到尾通讀一遍,隻不過中間打了幾個不大不小的哈欠(可以想見,現在的孩子身心有多累,一日之晨就這樣,一生之初就這樣)。就這樣,我沒好意思提:昨天和 今天這兩個淩晨,紮爸都把時間花在試譯這首詩成中文了。當然,又tmd是打油體,實在是:心有敬而力不足,太不成敬意了!
這首詩的開頭前四句,現在估計是婦孺皆知,紮紮爸以前就收集了不下幾十種譯法。但是全詩的完整翻譯,殊為遺憾,沒見過幾種。八十年代初上大學時限於英文和 智識水平,本能地喜歡這詩,卻讀之如霧裏看花隔雲看天不甚了了。現在有膽動筆試譯,除勇氣可嘉外,大概英文特別是智識上真有長進;這樣轉念一想,置筆後難 免有些沮喪的打油詩人,不禁有些欣喜了(總算體會了一回“悲欣交集”)。】

見一世界一細沙,    TO see a world in a grain of sand,
天堂隱於一野花,      And a heaven in a wild flower,
無限玲瓏掌心抓,    Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
永恒不朽頃悟化。      And eternity in an hour.
    
知更小鳥關進籠    A robin redbreast in a cage
整個天庭震怒中。    Puts all heaven in a rage.

大小鴿子擠鴿樓    A dove-house fill’d with doves and pigeons
每間地獄齊顫抖。    Shudders hell thro’ all its regions.
主人門前狗餓殍    A dog starv’d at his master’s gate
預示國家要毀掉。    Predicts the ruin of the state.

虐待馬匹於路迢  A horse misused upon the road
籲達天庭血冤報。    Calls to heaven for human blood.
獵殺野兔聲聲叫    Each outcry of the hunted hare
人腦纖維將撕爆。    A fibre from the brain does tear.

一隻雲雀傷翅膀,    A skylark wounded in the wing,
就有天使停歌唱。    A cherubim does cease to sing.
鬥雞利爪披甲打    The game-cock clipt and arm’d for fight
初升太陽見害怕。    Does the rising sun affright.
    
豺狼獅子嚎吼聲    Every wolf’s and lion’s howl
喚起地獄一冤魂。    Raises from hell a human soul.

野鹿四處去漫遊,    The wild deer, wand’ring here and there,
人之靈魂得保守。    Keeps the human soul from care.
羊羔受虐引爭吵,    The lamb misus’d breeds public strife,
卻還原諒屠夫刀。    And yet forgives the butcher’s knife.

蝙蝠低飛黃昏早    The bat that flits at close of eve
掠過呆頭不信道。    Has left the brain that won’t believe.
貓頭鷹在夜裏叫    The owl that calls upon the night
不信道者驚恐招。    Speaks the unbeliever’s fright.

誰敢傷害小鷦鷯    He who shall hurt the little wren
此公無人再愛著。    Shall never be belov’d by men.
誰惹公牛怒咆哮    He who the ox to wrath has mov’d
這男無女會來找。    Shall never be by woman lov’d.

妄為男孩蠅殺了    The wanton boy that kills the fly
蜘蛛敵意頓感到。    Shall feel the spider’s enmity.
折磨金龜小蟲靈    He who torments the chafer’s sprite
罰編涼亭夜夜深。    Weaves a bower in endless night.

樹葉上爬毛毛蟲    The caterpillar on the leaf
重蹈母轍憂心忡。    Repeats to thee thy mother’s grief.
飛蛾蝴蝶別捕碰,    Kill not the moth nor butterfly,
最後審判臨近中。    For the last judgment draweth nigh.

誰馴駿馬戰場用    He who shall train the horse to war
讓他遇阻北極熊。    Shall never pass the polar bar.
寡婦乞丐貓狗有,    The beggar’s dog and widow’s cat,
喂食它們你增肉。    Feed them and thou wilt grow fat.

蚊蚋夏天小調哼    The gnat that sings his summer’s song
因人誹謗舌毒噴。    Poison gets from slander’s tongue.
蛇蟒蠑螈毒汁吐    The poison of the snake and newt
是人嫉妒腳汗出。    Is the sweat of envy’s foot.

產蜜野蜂有毒針    The poison of the honey bee
那是藝人醋意生。    Is the artist’s jealousy.
    
乞丐破布王子袍    The prince’s robes and beggar’s rags
財迷袋囊毒菌落。    Are toadstools on the miser’s bags.
真理若以惡意告    A truth that’s told with bad intent
甚於謊言你能找。    Beats all the lies you can invent.

對是對來錯是錯;    It is right it should be so;
男兒生來皆憂樂;    Man was made for joy and woe;
及時知此智慧者    And when this we rightly know,
大千世界信步踱。    Thro’ the world we safely go.

憂樂榮辱細織作,    Joy and woe are woven fine,
聖潔靈魂外衣得。    A clothing for the soul divine.
哀楚熱望每臨著   Under every grief and pine
喜樂係著綢繩跑。    Runs a joy with silken twine.

繈褓樂隊聲勢浩,    
一嬰啼叫音更高;The babe is more than swaddling bands;
縱觀各地人棲著    Throughout all these human lands
天生雙手工具造    Tools were made, and born were hands,
所有農夫都知曉。    Every farmer understands.
眼珠有淚滴滴拋    Every tear from every eye
化成嬰孩永恒耀。    Becomes a babe in eternity;

女子聰穎悟此道,    This is caught by females bright,
悟道她更喜眉梢。    And return’d to its own delight.
羊咩狗吠野獸哮    The bleat, the bark, bellow, and roar,
天庭堤岸拍波濤。    Are waves that beat on heaven’s shore.

教鞭底下孩哭叫    The babe that weeps the rod beneath
信至冥府仇將報。    Writes revenge in realms of death.
乞丐破袍冷風飄,    The beggar’s rags, fluttering in air,
天堂淚珠撒破袍。    Does to rags the heavens tear.

士兵手持槍劍抖    The soldier, arm’d with sword and gun,
驚嚇夏天太陽走。    Palsied strikes the summer’s sun.
窮漢一幣值更高    The poor man’s farthing is worth more
非洲金岸比不了。    Than all the gold on Afric’s shore.

一蟎捏斃工匠手    One mite wrung from the lab’rer’s hands
財迷地產快收售;    Shall buy and sell the miser’s lands;
或蟎受更高關照    Or, if protected from on high,
全國房產買賣倒。    Does that whole nation sell and buy.

誰若嘲笑娃信條    He who mocks the infant’s faith
定受譏諷臨終老。    Shall be mock’d in age and death.
教唆孩子疑惑道        He who shall teach the child to doubt
將入亂墳無處逃。    The rotting grave shall ne’er get out.

誰若尊重孩信條    He who respects the infant’s faith
勝過地獄死不了。     Triumphs over hell and death.
小孩玩具老人理    The child’s toys and the old man’s reasons
人生兩季碩果積。    Are the fruits of the two seasons.

人若靦腆坐提問,   The questioner, who sits so sly,
將來難學回答人。    Shall never know how to reply.
誰能數言解疑惶,    He who replies to words of doubt
就是點亮知識光。    Doth put the light of knowledge out.

最強毒藥古今算    The strongest poison ever known
來自愷撒月桂冠。    Came from Caesar’s laurel crown.
人類變形因虛無    Nought can deform the human race
鎧甲支架常鏽蛀。    Like to the armour’s iron brace.

黃金寶石飾鐵犁,    When gold and gems adorn the plow,
和平藝術羨雕弓。    To peaceful arts shall envy bow.
謎語或者蟋蟀鳴,    A riddle, or the cricket’s cry,
得體答案現疑問。    Is to doubt a fit reply.

蟻爬一寸鷹飛裏    The emmet’s inch and eagle’s mile
跛足哲學笑嘻嘻。    Make lame philosophy to smile.
親眼所見還疑問   He who doubts from what he sees
隨你做啥不相信。    Will ne’er believe, do what you please.

日月若起疑惑心,    If the sun and moon should doubt,
立馬出來耀天庭。    They’d immediately go out.
人有激情佳作有,    To be in a passion you good may do,
激情控人不妙由。    But no good if a passion is in you.

娼妓賭徒合法搞    The whore and gambler, by the state
國運根基早動搖。    Licensed, build that nation’s fate.
妓女沿路滿街叫    The harlot’s cry from street to street
英倫屍布織編好。    Shall weave old England’s winding-sheet.

贏的歡呼輸詛咒    The winner’s shout, the loser’s curse,    
英倫柩前舞不休。Dance before dead England’s hearse.

每一夜來每一晨    Every night and every morn
有些悲慘人降生。    Some to misery are born,
每一晨來每一晚,   Every morn and every night
有些人生喜樂歡。    Some are born to sweet delight.

 有些人生喜樂歡,   Some are born to sweet delight,
有些人生夜漫漫。    Some are born to endless night.

我等注定信謊言    We are led to believe a lie
如若不用眼睛看,    When we see not thro’ the eye,
黑夜生眼也滅幻,    Which was born in a night to perish in a night,
靈魂遇光睡安然。    When the soul slept in beams of light.

上帝顯現祂是光,   God appears, and God is light,
照亮卑魂暗夜藏。    To those poor souls who dwell in night;
上帝顯現人模樣    But does a human form display
示範眾人棲於光。    To those who dwell in realms of day.
