我要寫卡車司機，不是因為我每天工作都與卡車司機們打交道。我要寫的這位卡車司機，我從未曾謀麵。
卡車司機的工作在美國，不算什麽好工作。危險，各地到處跑，難有規律的家庭生活。大多有其他選擇的人都不太願意當卡車司機。大概過半的卡車司機是第一代移民，那些在美國還未完全立穩腳跟的第一代移民，如，俄羅斯人，中國人，印度人，中東人等等。他們口音很重的英語或是很爛的英語會告訴你，他們是第一代移民，甚至是新移民。
我要寫的這卡車司機是土生土長的美國白人，也是我工作的植物檢疫站長的弟弟，其實是站長的後媽帶過來的兒子，與站長沒有血緣關係。他留給站長最深的記憶是，一個十一二歲的小男孩。那年站長還在讀大學，夏天回到他爸爸家並在附近打工，第一次見到了這個後媽帶過來的小男孩。好像在站長的印象裏，他這個弟弟就永遠停留在那十一二歲的小男孩的層麵上。因為，那夏天之後，站長大學畢業了，工作了完全獨立了，見到這弟弟的機會不多。
那卡車司機有高血壓的病曆，因為常跑車，吃藥就不太正常。他在三周前，死於心髒病發作。那天，他到內華達州的有小賭城之稱的雷諾市。他不是個賭徒，到賭場去小玩小賭一把，隻是一些美國人的習慣而已。那天他玩老虎機贏了一萬美金。在和友人排隊到自助餐廳吃晚飯時，覺得排隊等侯的時間太長，就又去玩了老虎機。就那一小段時間，一台機讓他贏了一千美金，另一台機讓他贏了三百美金。等他坐在餐桌前時，他的口袋裏有一萬一千三百美金的現鈔。他心情很爽地吃了一頓大餐。然後到賭場賓館的房間，美美地洗個澡，準備上床睡覺，宣告一天的結束。才走到床邊時，心髒病就發作，倒下了。在未接觸到地麵之前，就死了，享年47歲。
他死前的一天是他快樂的一天。有不少人認為，那天他太興奮了，他的心髒受不了，就死了。我可不這麽認為，死於心髒病的人多著咧，可不是每個人都贏大錢吃了大餐才死的。我更相信是那一天是一個快樂的人的最後的一天快樂。
他給一家有很多直升飛機的公司工作。他的工作是開著帶有一個大油罐的卡車在地麵上追著在天上飛的直升飛機。直升飛機沒有燃油了，就降下來找他加油。他們公司的直升機飛到哪裏，他就開卡車到哪裏。
卡車司機沒有子女，他的追思會就在他父母居住的城市西雅圖市舉行。站長開車十五個小時一路接上他的兩個姐姐去參加他的追思會。
卡車司機生前工作的公司從老遠的地方派來了七個人參加他的追思會，從公司的所有者到另外的卡車司機。公司的所有者和副總裁也在追思會上回憶分享講話。公司專門製作了影像片來追憶他。錄像片裏放有一些直升飛機從天上拍攝下來的那司機在不同的路況開大油罐卡車的影片鏡頭，也放有他給直升飛機加油的影片鏡頭。在影片中可以看到，那司機的操作專業而嫻熟，動作沉穩而有序，表情自信而自然。好像，那司機生來就是做那些事的料。
是的，那司機天生是做卡車司的料。在他還是十一二歲時，站長的爸爸，要他寫下自己長大要做的三件事。那十一二歲的小男孩，寫下，第一是當卡車司機；第二是當卡車司機；第三還是當卡車司機。站長知道了，就對他說，你不要當卡車司機，你要去上大學，選擇更好的職業。那男孩說，我要當卡車司機。後來，他真的成了卡車司機。他開大油罐卡車二十餘年，各種路況都遇到過，沒有出過什麽事，也沒有過違規而得罰單的事。卡車司機生前工作的公司很傷心，因為他們失去了一名很好的員工，一名出生就是為了做那份工作的員工。在卡車司機過世後不久，公司就製作了一塊金屬牌，刻著 “紀念Jerry Johnson” 並鑲在卡車司機生前開的大油罐卡車上。Jerry Johnson是卡車司機的名字。那是一部隻服役了四個月的全新的大卡車，也是卡車司機的職業生涯中第一次開全新的大卡車。在他的人生最後的四個月裏，因著這部全新的大卡車，他的心情特別爽。
追思會上，大家對卡車司機的分享回憶把站長帶到悲傷之中。站長第一次告訴我他的死訊時，站長不算悲傷。等到站長從他的追思會回來時，再提到他時，眼含淚花。站長在轉述追思會上大家對卡車司機的分享回憶時，眼淚快掉出來了。
我的心也被卡車司機的故事打動了。打動我的心的是，那卡車司機如此忠實地執行自己的命運，如此安心地接受自己的命運，如此快樂地享受自己的命運。他那當卡車司機的命運，在這個有很多機會的國度裏，不算是什麽好的命運。
有宗教說，人的命運是前世注定的或是說上天安排的。但，我相信人的命運中，有先天預定的部分，有後天的被揀選部分，也有自己自由選擇的部分。人在運用自己的“自由意誌，自己選擇” 的權利時，大多都受到世俗的功名利祿價值觀的影響，在環境許可時，大都追隨世俗的價值觀。這就是為什麽對人來說，要不受世俗影響地追隨自己的內心很難。在充滿世俗的這個世界裏，很多人就從來沒有機會發現自己命運中的先天預定的部分。
這卡車司機不一樣，他從小就從內心發現自己命運中的先天預定的部分，並且，排除世俗的影響堅持這個命運。在成就這個命運中，他享受了生命，享受了生活！這是他打動我的心靈地方，打動很多人的心靈地方。
