Local Firefighter Saves Husky From Icy Harbor
Sylvie, a 13-year-old dog, was walking with her owner near Castle Island on the shore of Boston Harbor when she fell through the ice after running across it. Coyle, along with his fellow Ladder 19 firefighters, responded to the scene and lead the charge across the ice to save Sylvie.
"We look at pets like citizens. They're loved by their owners ... we just want to get them out safe," Coyle said.
Coyle braved the frigid conditions and crossed the ice in a rescue basket to reach the freezing Husky.
"If the ice breaks and this goes south, I'm in this. I'm not going to let her drown," Coyle recalled.
After successfully pulling Sylvie from the ice, Coyle himself fell in but was immediately pulled out by his team members. The courageous firefighter has not seen the lucky Husky since she ran back to her family, but he has been amazed at the attention he is receiving.....
