我總覺得它和詩經有一種很微妙的契合，縱然一個是公元之前，而另一個是百世以後。它的旋律，仿佛是一陣清風，夾雜著野草野花的苦寒輕香，在大地上緩緩掠過；而我更看見一個穿白衣服的人搖著木鐸，邊走邊呼喚著蒼穹，在一望無際的大地與村莊之間采集夢幻。真的很難忘卻這種莫名的聯想。很喜歡在異邦的文明之中，還能尋出這樣令我心折的古中國的意韻。
試著用詩經的格式翻了下，填到原曲中，竟也能唱。

Scarborough是來自全歐洲的商人經常聚集的一個海邊重鎮，非常繁華，而現在隻是英格蘭西北部一個默默無聞的小鎮。作為歌曲，Scarborough Fair原是一首古老的蘇格蘭民間謎歌(riddle song)，所謂”riddle song”,是指那些民間流傳廣泛，但是不知道作者是誰的歌曲，而且由於人們的相互傳唱，本來的曲調已經改變了很多。
1966年底，又一張主要以西蒙在英國期間創作的歌曲為主的專輯出版了。專輯的名稱《歐芹、鼠尾草、迷迭香和百裏香》是專輯主打歌《斯卡布羅集市/頌歌》（Scarborough Fair/ Canticle）中的一句歌詞。此歌原是一首古老的英國民歌，其起源可一直追溯到中世紀。它曾被英國民歌之父麥考選進他編輯的一本介紹英國民歌的書中。後來英國民歌手馬汀·卡西（Martin Carthy）在原歌的基礎上加進了自己的再創造（尤其是裏麵那優美的吉它伴奏），把它變成了一首非常優美的愛情歌曲。西蒙在英國時從卡西那裏學會了這首歌。他又再創造性地把自己寫的一首反戰歌曲《山坡上》（The Side Of A Hill）作為副歌和這首歌混在一起，用對比的手法表達了對和平的渴望。加芬克爾為副歌作了曲，成為歌中的“頌歌”部分。兩人在錄音時利用多軌技術把多個聲部疊加在一起，使人聲顯得特別豐富。
《Scarborough Fair》是美國六十年代最受大學生歡迎的電影、1968年奧斯卡獲獎片《畢業生》（達斯汀·霍夫曼主演，其成名作）中的主題曲，歌曲名稱：《Scarborough Fair》（中譯：斯坎伯瑞集市），原唱歌手：Paul Simon （保羅·西蒙）和Art Garfunkel（加芬克爾），作詞：Paul Simon - Art Garfunkel，作曲：Paul Simon - Art Garfunke。
