Between Going And Coming - Poem by Octavio Paz

Between going and staying
the day wavers,
in love with its own transparency.
The circular afternoon is now a bay
where the world in stillness rocks.

All is visible and all elusive,
all is near and can’t be touched.

Paper, book, pencil, glass,
rest in the shade of their names.

Time throbbing in my temples repeats
the same unchanging syllable of blood.

The light turns the indifferent wall
into a ghostly theater of reflections.

I find myself in the middle of an eye,
watching myself in its blank stare.

The moment scatters. Motionless,
I stay and go: I am a pause.

Me: Thinking of stay but life calls me to go

         I am only a pause

白日在去留之際踟躕，

 迷戀著它自己的透明。

弧形的下午如今是一泓海灣，

世界在那裏靜靜地搖動。

 

 一切都清晰可見而又難以捉摸，

一切都近在咫尺而又不可企及。

   紙，書，鉛筆和玻璃杯，

全都遮蔽在它們的名字後麵休息。

 

 時間在我的太陽穴跳動，

不斷地重複脈搏的節奏。

光線照亮了平淡無奇的牆，

映現出鬼影憧憧的劇院。

 我在我的瞳仁中看見了自己，

在那空漠的凝視中自覷。

瞬間散落了。一動不動，

我欲留而又行；我隻是一個暫停。

 Paz，1914.3.31～1998.4.19，墨西哥詩人、散文家。生於墨西哥城。帕斯的創作融合了拉美本土文化及西班牙語係的文學傳統，繼承歐洲現代主義的形而上追索以及用語言創造自由境界的信念。1990年由於“他的作品充滿激情，視野開闊，滲透著感悟的智慧並體現了完美的人道主義”而獲得諾貝爾文學獎。
