Bulldogs are known for their tenacity, so the students of the University of Georgia must have worked long and hard to claw their way to the top spot on the most-talked-about of all the lists in The Princeton Review's annual College Guide- that of the top party schools in the country.

This is the first year the Georgia Bulldogs walked off with top party school honors. By contrast, Brigham Young University in Utah topped the category opposite - Stone Cold Sober Schools - for the 12th straight year.

That long winning streak must have something to do with BYU's Mormon heritage; the faith frowns on both alcohol and caffeine. The rankings of party schools and stone cold sober campuses is based on student responses to questions about alcohol and drug use, hours of study each day, and the popularity of the Greek system on campus. The Princeton Review surveyed 122,000 students on 373 U.S. and Canadian campuses to come up with this year's rankings.

Schools in the Midwest barely nosed out Southern schools, 8-7, for regional pride of place in the party school rankings. One state from each region - Indiana in the Midwest, Florida in the South - had two party schools within its borders.

By contrast, almost all of the stone cold sober schools fall into one of three categories: Service academies (the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was the only one not to make this list), religiously affiliated schools, and current and former women's colleges. One surprise on the list: Queens College of the City University of New York.
