北卡多頭市(Morehead City) 海邊
米國北卡的小城多頭市，坐落在東海岸曉有名氣的 Outer Banks 最南端。雖然離俺家不足三小時車程，竟然還沒去溜達過。 勞動節那周末，邀了幾對‘空巢’，一溜煙奔了過去。 沒想到，還真有點 ‘相見恨晚’ 的感覺。
(一). 不野的野馬 小城的東邊有個小島叫 Shackleford Banks。 島上除了上乘的海灘外，最為吸引遊客的是一百多匹的 ‘野馬’。據說是四百多年前西班牙人留下來的，除了這個島外，它們還分布在 OuterBanks 的好些地方。我發現下麵這位馬先生的 ‘自述’ 還有點意思，故抄錄於此與大夥分享： “ I am what some people call a banker pony. I am really a horse but we are called ponies because we are smaller than some horses, ... .... In the 16th century, my ancestors came from Spain via Hispaniola (located between Cuba and Puerto Rico) to live on one of the islands off the coast of North Carolina that make up the Outer Banks. My island is called Shackleford Banks and it is only nine miles long. It is located just east of Morehead City and Beaufort (we pronounce it Bow-fert). ... .We swam ashore from sinking ships long before the English people came.
