For newbie's in the stock market

I'd say if you have some cash, start small in the stock market (after you educated yourself), and observe your own risk tolerance and your emotional/psychological profile thru market cycles.. and increase your size gradually to the point where you can sleep well, regardless of what the market does....with the rest of the money, pay off mortgage, buy a CD, buy some bonds, whatever that makes sense to yourself....
Only you yourself knows what is right for you.I have seen too many joe six packs, especially during the previous market drop, could not take the pain of watching their portfolio going down every day, and waved the white flag at the exact market bottom.
