　　作為一部包攬了金球獎、奧斯卡和葛萊美最佳電影配樂殊榮的作品，《星球大戰》的魅力甚至征服了許多專門演奏古典音樂的大型管弦樂團，美國國家愛樂管弦樂團就是其中之一。影片上映的同年12月，在指揮家Charles Gerhardt的率領下，他們重新演奏了約翰·威廉姆斯所創作的6段配樂，並連同約翰創作的另一部作品《第三類接觸》，一起發行了黑膠唱片。較之於首版原聲粗糙的製作，這張33分鍾的濃縮版《星球大戰》，更無愧於作品本身的經典地位。1989年，RCA唱片公司又采用數字技術製作了它的CD版，使聲音的品質進一步得到了提升。迄今為止，這款經過杜比環繞混音的CD，仍是所有《星球大戰》唱片裏最出色的一張。
　　1993年，“星戰” 三部曲首次以套裝的形式推出。四張CD中，除了《星球大戰》、《帝國反擊戰》和《武士歸來》各自的原聲，還有一張集合了這三部影片配樂的合集。盡管每張唱片都增加了一些從前未發行的曲目，但由於這些曲目為畫麵節奏服務的痕跡太重，加之編排的失誤，它並沒有象預期那樣引來一片喝彩之聲。
