All I Know is Clothes

My 7 year old nephew lying down on the floor of their family room, looking at me with a big grin. He started, “ Why did you never buy me anything ...” he quickly corrected, “any toys? “ I buy him and his brother clothes all the time since they were born. And I think that's only thing I ever bought for them. He knows it. But for a seven year old boy, clothes is equivlant to nothing …

Smiling back, I said: “Because, honey, because all I know is clothes. I don't know anything about toys.” Paused for a second, I continuted:”Why don't you make a wish list this Christmas, so I will know what toy to get for you.”

Lying down there quietly, with that heart-melting grin on his face, he seemed satisfied with my answer.
