恩雅(Enya)原名Eithne Ni Bhraonain，生於1961年5月17日。童年在Gweedore 度過。Gweedore隸屬愛爾蘭西北部的Donegal郡，那片地區主要是愛爾蘭語區。家中共有9個兄弟姐妹。除了排行中間的恩雅外，家中還有4個女孩和4個男孩。一家人在音樂方麵獲獎甚多，並聞名於愛爾蘭傳統音樂圈.

恩雅與知名的跨國唱片公司WEA簽約，她的第二張專輯《水印》(Watermark) 取得了徹底的成功。該專輯全球銷量超過一千萬張，在其中的單曲Orinoco Flow(英國排行第一)的幫助下，《水印》在14個國家取得了白金銷量。接著她靠《牧羊人的月亮》 (Shepherd Moons)重現了在全球的成功，該專輯令人驚訝地在美國Billboard排行榜上待了199周，而且銷量超過1千1百萬張。
