A few years ago, after my firstborn went to college, my second child asked for a dog for companionship, and he made all kinds of promises such as feeding, walking, training etc. Knowing full well that these are empty promises, we gave in and adopted a small dog. We used to have a large dog for 15 years, a loyal and sweet dog.
Our new dog quickly bonded with all of us. Fast forward to spring 2020, the spring is like no other, my firstborn was sent home from her college like so many college students. The only way that my college student would venture out was to walk the dog, alone, with her headsets. Walk the dog she did, from spring to summer, from fall to winter. My dog is the common topic we talk about, my dog is the ice breaker. My dog saved us.
