在大學還用找宿舍嗎？我們從前都是分配的，多少人一間房，與誰做室友，什麽都沒有選擇，不過也什麽都不用操心。現在兒子在美國讀大學，而且學校每年遇到財政危機，省心兩個字是甭指望了。
因為是被照顧的第一年新生，兒子舒服地住進了學校寢室，距離課堂非常近，到食堂、健身房也都方便。可是好日子不長久，才讀了一年三學期的一半，就要開始為二年級的生活找宿舍了。
當然，讓他早一點嚐試一下生活，鍛煉鍛煉處事經世的能力，也未嚐不是一件好事情。
這是他找大學二年級宿舍的經曆。
This past weekend I have been looking for a place near UC Davis, the college I am attending, because school dorms only can take one year of students (priority to freshman). The first step of finding an apartment was to see what apartments are available. My search was relatively easy because I already had 3 roommates, so we were only going to go look at apartments that had a 4 room model. In UC Davis, there is a site called DavisWiki which has almost all information needed for a life in UC Davis. After looking at the wiki page for apartments, only 10 of them had a 4 room model. After comparing prices and location, we were able to eliminate a few choices because they were just too far or were not worth for the price. Some were also sold out already.
The next step was to visit the possible apartments. For my case, we went to Sharps and Flats and Tanglewood, which were south of UC Davis, Trees and Sorrento, which were northwest of UC Davis, and the Ramble and Viridian, which were west of UC Davis. The bike ride to the tour pretty much already the choice obvious for us. Besides for the Ramble, it would take about 15 minutes on uneven terrain to get to campus, which is not the ideal thing considering possible 7:30 am classes. Most of the people who were living there had cars to drive there, or take the bus which only comes every 30 minutes. We took tours of the various apartments. Some had two stories and uneven room size, most of them only had a few washers and dryers for the whole complex. Only Ramble had a washer and dryer in the room, as well as a close location to campus.
We did the first part of the registration thing. Then there will be an email going to my parents about the Ramble. The apartment office needs income and tax report info from them because I don't have income/credit. The email might be in the spam folder. Hopefully everything goes well.
