1981年，多明哥找來好友約翰 · 丹佛一同合作專輯《也許就是愛》（Perhaps Love），演唱多首電影、音樂劇的主題曲，其中也包括了約翰丹佛的暢銷曲《安妮之歌》（Annie’s Song）。不過，多明哥不甘於隻唱些經典歌曲，慧眼挑中了丹佛尚未發表的歌《也許就是愛》。
丹佛早在七十年代便已《鄉村路帶我回家》（Take Me Home, Country Roads）名滿天下，但他進入八十年代，聲勢卻已江河日下。他寫這首曲子時，與發妻安妮正麵臨婚姻低潮，令他處在生命中的低潮。在他開車前往美國加州的途中，他沿著海岸線，在藍天白雲下突然靈感來臨，便產生了這首描寫愛的真諦的歌，也成為他音樂生涯後期中最膾炙人口的代表作。
這首歌從一開始丹佛的吉他彈弦開始，多明哥低沉渾厚的嗓音唱出「 愛就像避難所給你溫暖，在你最孤單的時刻，帶你回家。」接著丹佛清亮的高音唱出「 愛就像一扇窗戶，幫助你敞開自我；就算迷失了自己，但愛會帶領你前進。」兩人的合聲搭配的天衣無縫。
這首歌當年一推出後，雖隻拿下美國告示牌單曲榜第五十九名，卻無損於歌迷對此曲的喜愛，並在口碑推波助瀾下，至今銷售早已突破百萬張。
