As property prices soar to record prices in one of the world's most expensive cities, poverty remains a top concern of social and welfare groups in Hong Kong.

The Society for Community Organisation (SoCO), a group concerned with poverty issues in Hong Kong, has reached out to the public with stunning photos of how Hong Kong's cage and coffin home dwellers live.

These photographs show how the underprivileged, many of whom rely solely on public assistance payouts to get by, in urban slums sleep, eat and clean within the confines of their cage-like homes.

According to the organisation, as of December 2012, there were 320,000 people on the waiting list for public rental housing. This number has been increasing as supply has not been able to meet the large demand every year.

While these photographs highlight the need to address housing issues in Hong Kong today, welfare organisations like SoCO can only hope that better allocation does not remain just an elusive dream for the city's poorest citizens.
