momentos of our life in the south --- 10/16/2023

“You are in good hands”

My appointment with Endodontist is 10:30am today.

A week ago, I started to feel tooth pain, my husband checked my teeth and analyzed three possibilities: cavities, nerves dying or cervical erosion. After checking my last dentist visit record, and taping my teeth, he concluded it might be the root nerve dying or dead. Immediately he made a general dentist appointment for me and we went the 2nd day. After the x ray, Dr. B said the nerve started dying but not dead yet. He prescribed antibiotics and referred me to an endodontist.

Since my pain comes and goes, I asked my husband if we can delay the treatment and wait for us to go back to our primary dentist. He immediately said NO. He said “it can progress very fast and you will suffer tremendously with an abscessed tooth if not treated on time”

He called around and finally made the appointment for me with an endodontist at Beaufort.

The antibiotic and ibuprofen worked very well on me. I have not had very much pain so I suggest us to make several stops and enjoy the islands today.

We drove by 3 islands, had breakfast, visited a wetland park and the museum in the morning.

At 10:15am, we arrived at the Dentist clinic. The operation took 2 hours and I almost fell into sleep. I was amazed how technology helps to diagnosis and treat the patient.

Following is my experience of how the operation went:

First they use a three dimensional x way to check my root fractures. Then anesthesia was given, on my cheek side and palate side,  by a machine, which is more gentle.

After applying the rubber dam (keep the saliva out and chemicals in), a hole was drilled through the gold crown, and canals were located by using a microscope:  four of them. Each of four canals was negotiated to the root tip and they were shaped and cleaned.

The new device was interesting. It did extra 10 minute cleaning automatically with liquid cleaning vortex. Once cleaned the doctor dries the canals with a piece of paper. He put a bio ceramic sealer inside to the root tip and sealed the access opening of my gold crown with resin restoration.

Amazingly smooth. I thanked the doctor and his associate.

When we were leaving, the pretty front desk lady explained how to take care for the coming 2 days and she said: “your husband knows all this. You are in good hands! “

On the way back, we went to have sushi and poke bowl. The cloud of low country was extremely pretty.

Life is good. and I am in good hands! My husband has helped me to avoid horrible pain.
