As the serial number 49 implies, red is a warning symbol.( Coincidently market today is red).

A primary color, complementary to cyan, the word red is associated with the color of blood, certain flowers (e.g. roses), and ripe fruits (e.g. apples, cherries). Fire is also strongly connected, as is the sun and the sky at sunset. Healthy light-skinned people are sometimes said to have a "ruddy" complexion (as opposed to appearing pale). After the rise of socialism in the mid-19th century, red was used to describe revolutionary movements.

I also found the connection of red with its Chinese count part hong2. Therefore dozens of words with red could be remembered easily.


Chinese Red is a symbol of China. Red wall, lanterns, wedding, couplets, red constitute the people identify with the color of Beijing. Passion and movement, joy and peace, is the color of folklore and culture.

My first attempt for periodical is named as "Yellow flower of battle ground", shows my influence by turbulent Chinese revolutionary history. Fortunately I was not victimized by it, not devoured by the flame. Maybe for this reason, I continued in favor of red by choosing "Red Chamber" as my second and last art pictorial attempt at a University with a historical building in this name. After my graduation, my followers waited no time to change it to "Five Colored Soil", which is not distinguishable since it is the name in "Heaven Temple Park", and also has a negative homonym.

紅 is related to 工,共,江 and 洪,宏,轟,虹, it hints with force, greatness, gorgeous, and many more. This color is not very popular in contemporary portraiture, so is yellow too. My choice for a doctor's portrait in this color was rejected for he saw it is related in his working environment--blood. I watched master artist Chen Yanning's portrait, was amazed by his using of variety of red in a girl's lip.

紅 had an unforgettable memory with our past, except evil 紅, I still appreciate its symbolic content of enthusiasm,vigour and optimism.
