　　老鷹合唱團具美國音樂承先啟後的地位，其優美的和聲上承Everly Brothers（艾佛利兄弟二重唱）、Beach Boys（海灘少年合唱團）、C.S.N.Y.以來的優良傳統；流暢的旋律與演奏為民謠＼鄉村搖滾The Byrds（伯茲）、Buffalo Springfield（水牛春田）、The Flying Burrito Brothers等合唱團的延續，這些音樂特色影響了日後鄉村音樂的發展，九○年代之後像Garth Brooks、Tim McGraw、Restless Heart…等巨星或團體無不受老鷹合唱團的啟發；同時老鷹合唱團也被視為加州搖滾的代表團體之一。
　　老鷹合唱團由主唱兼鼓手Don Henley、主唱兼吉他手Glenn Frey、貝斯手Randy Meisner、主奏吉他手Bernie Leadon四人於1971年成立於加州，1974年第二位吉他手Don Felder正式加入成為五人團體；1975年Joe Walsh代替Leadon；1976年Timothy B. Schmit取代Meisner；1994年Henley、Frey、Felder、Walsh、Schmit的五人組合現身MTV的不插電演唱會，這是他們1982年解散後的首次合作。這場演唱會現場實況後來發行名為『Hell Freezes Over』的CD與DVD，成為熱賣的專輯。此後老鷹合唱團不時聚首做現場演出，例如1998年老鷹合唱團被引進搖滾名人殿堂（Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame）的典禮上前後七位團員一同表演了「Hotel California」；原本被認為是千禧年的1999年除夕夜，老鷹合唱團也做了一場跨年演唱會，部份歌曲收錄在2000年出版的四張一套精選「Selected Works: 1972-1999」中。就在大家盛傳老鷹合唱團有新作品問市之際，2003年7月中一支DVD單曲”Hole In The World” 搶先推出，但出乎意料地Don Felder並未在封麵上，原來他在2001年也離團了，於是老鷹合唱團又恢複成四人團體。
　　《Farewell 1 Tour：Live From Melbourne》是老鷹合唱團2005年最新發行的兩張一套DVD，內容是2004年該團舉行的告別巡回演唱會11月17日在墨爾本的實況，由 Glenn Frey親自擔任執行製作。第一張DVD包含大部份老鷹合唱團之代表作”The Long Run”、”New Kid In Town”、”One Of These Nights”、”Lyin’ Eyes” …再加上Don Henley個人名作”The Boys Of Summer” 、”Sunset Grill、Joe Walsh作曲的”One Day At A Time” （新歌）、”Walk Away”（James Gang時期作品）、Glenn Frey的”No More Cloudy Days”（新歌，第三次在現場發表）和”You Belong To The City”，Schmit主唱的”Love Will Keep Us Alive”是「Hell Freezes Over」中的新歌、曾在英國發行單曲，共20首歌節目總長超過90分鍾。第二張包含大家熟悉的”Hotel California”、”Heartache Tonight”、”Life In The Fast Lane” ，還有Don Henley的排行曲”Dirty Laundry”、”All She Want To Do Is Dance” 、Joe Walsh個人或James Gang團體時代的”Life’s Been Good”、”Funk #49”、”Rocky Mountain Way”；安可曲是” Take It Easy”、”Desperado” 共60多分鍾。
