NZ interest rates rise again

(2007-07-25 18:58:22) 下一個
New Zealand\'s interest rates were already the highest in the developed world ahead of this morning\'s announcement of a further increase of 25 basis points.

Reserve Bank governor Dr Allan Bollard justified the decision, due to the continuing strength of the New Zealand economy, a tight labour market and rising oil and food prices all contributing to sustained inflationary pressures.

All eyes are now on the impact this latest increase will have on currency markets.

The NZ dollar, which this week set a new 22-year record high of almost 81.5 US cents, was trading at 80.35 US cents at 9:56am AEST.
