這首歌Make me chanel of peace 改編於 聖 弗朗西斯和平祈禱詩（Prayer of St.Francis），這首祈禱詩被廣泛認為是中世紀意大利傳道士聖 弗朗西斯科 達西斯（Saint Francescod’ Assis）所寫， 盡管目前的資料隻能追溯到1912年的一個小型法文雜誌 La clochette（小鍾），以匿名形式發表。 第二次世界大戰期間和之後禱告詩文開始被大量傳播，可能還是禱告文改編的英文歌Make Me A Channel of Your Peace讓這首虔誠感人的祈禱詩漸漸被世人廣為知曉。修女特雷莎用這首祈禱詩文作為他們教會每天早上禱告的一部分， 南非大主教圖圖也說這首禱告詩文內容也是他一生努力奉獻的全部，不少政治家也引用禱告詩文在他們的政治典禮儀式上。

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

A popular hymn version, adapted and set to music by Sebastian Temple, ©1967 by OCP Publications, is Make Me A Channel of Your Peace. It is an anthem of the Royal British Legion and is usually sung every year at the Service of Remembrance in November at the Royal Albert Hall, London. It goes as follows:

Make me a channel of your peace:

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,

And where there's doubt true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace:

Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope,

Where there is darkness, only light,

And where there's sadness, ever joy.

The following variation on the prayer was delivered by Mother Theresa when she addressed the United Nations in 1985 

Make us worthy Lord to serve our fellow men throughout the world,

who live and die in poverty and hunger.

Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread

and by our understanding love give peace and joy.

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace.

That where there is hatred I may bring love,

That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness,

Saint Francesco d'Assisi 簡介：

亞西西的方濟各（意大利文：Francesco d'Assisi），簡稱方濟，生於1182年 7月5日, 意大利亞西西（Assisi，天主教譯名外的中文一譯“阿西西”），卒於1226年10月3日，是動物、商人、天主教教會運動、美國舊金山市以及自然環境的守護聖人，也是方濟各會（又稱“小兄弟會”）的創辦者。

 

童年及少年時期 

方濟生於1181年前後，原名若望·伯爾納道奈，他父親後來把他改名為方濟各。他的父親伯多祿是個富有的布料商人。他母親Pica則少有記載。方濟各有數個兄弟姊妹。

由於不滿於他父親的企業還有對物質欲望的追求，方濟將他少年時期多半時間花在讀書上麵，其中還包含拉丁文。方濟本還因為飲酒以及喜歡和他多半有貴族背景的朋友在一起玩樂出名，不過他很早就對現實周遭環境有所領悟，這從一個他和乞丐的故事中可以看出來。在那故事中，當他在和朋友出遊時碰到了個要求施舍的乞丐，他的朋友對那乞丐視若無睹，但方濟卻把他當時身上所有的東西都給了那乞丐。他的朋友因此譏笑他這行為的愚蠢，而當他回家後他的父親為這件事大發雷霆。

在1201年方濟加入了軍隊抵抗佩魯賈，被抓起來當戰犯關了一年。大概是這段時間，方濟的思想開始變為嚴肅。

聖方濟各與大自然 

很多方濟生平的故事是和他對動物的愛有關。關於方濟對於大自然的關懷最有名的故事大概是在小花（Fioretti）一書中提到的，說到關於方濟和鳥的故事。小花一書搜集了在聖方濟各死後的多種傳聞及民間故事。一天聖方濟和他的伴侶們在旅途上看到了路的兩邊的樹上有很多鳥，他告訴他同伴們說“你們等我，我要去對我的鳥姊妹傳教。”鳥在他傳教的時候圍繞著他，被他的聲音吸引，一隻都沒有飛走。聖方濟各對他們說：

“我的鳥姊妹，你們受助於天主太多了，所以你們一定要隨時隨地感謝上主。為了他給你們自由在天空飛翔，為了他給你們衣裳……你們不用耕種不用收割上主就喂了你們，給你們河流和泉水止渴，給你們山穀遮蔭，給你們高樹築巢。你們雖不知道如何縫紉或編織，上主就幫你和你後代製好了衣服。因為主如此愛你們，他對你們滿是恩惠。因此，永遠要讚美天主”
