Seeing as you can\'t even take pictures in public without the London cops hassling you, and how there are CCTVs everywhere in London, it will seem like the Olympics had never left Beijing.

Well...I don\'t know how many of you have been to London, or more specifically have had the freedom in London to wander outside the typical tourist areas - some of which are unmissable and awesome - but...Most of London really sucks. The airport is lightyears away from any happenin\' areas - 45 min by train IF there is no stoppage for drunks on the rail line or \'mystery package\' left on the stations (both happened multiple times to me in 11 days there and resulted in hours - seriously hours long delays) and for those who arrive jetlagged looking for the famous pub life after 11pm - fuggetougoudit (sp?). Everything closes down early like it\'s a town in small town USA - you\'d be shocked after all that you seem to hear about all the \'punters\' and \'pints\' and the metropolis of London.
The ethnic food is amazing - definitely a highlight and the place to grub the entire time you\'re there - but the chip shops?! So disgusting it is unreal. I\'ll let you decide. Remember this - it is not uncommon for the average person eating out frequently to go several days without a bowel movement due to a high fat / no fiber diet - I know, I know you didn\'t want to hear that but it is true - ask a resident. But I digress - seriously though, no pubs open after 11-11:30 oh excuse me, 23:30?! C\'mon, that just killed it for me. Drinking songs are cool but getting kicked out at 10:30pm in downtown is just wrong.
I could go on and on - burned out car right around the corner from a seemingly genteel \'hood? check. Police-sponsored sandwich signs on the road pleading for witnesses to a dumping of a body right around the corner from an elementary school? check. Staggeringly drunken hoardes of youth raging down the streets of the suburbs, loooking for a fight, any fight at all!? check.
I will say that never have I seen such incredibly polite police. In situations where the cowboy US cop would have escalated to the highest possible level just to be involved in a shooting to advance his career, these coppers were kind but firm; totally in control. Shocking and satisfying to see at the same time. You should definitely go if you can.
