2019 Reading - January

(2019-01-31 11:24:36) 下一個

On GoodReads, I set my 2019 reading challenge to be 80 books. I figure I average a book a week with no problem, so stretching to 80 for the year seems to be a good goal.

And I did really well in the first month by finishing 9 books. This should help balance things for February & March when I expect to have fewer opportunities to read for good chunk of time, due to travel etc.

Books read January:

Gorky Park, by Martin Cruz Smith. Interesting literary mystery thriller set (mostly) in Moscow featuring a Russian chief investigator

The First Quarry, and Qarry in the Middle, both by Max Allan Collins. Pulp fiction. Very easy to read. Less predictable than other genre books. Good entertainment

A Burn Out Case, by Graham Greene. This is one of Greene's more religion-centered books. Very well written but probabley a lesser subject matter in my taste

Daughters of the Lake, by Wendy Webb. A Kindle Frist book complementary by Amzaon Prime. So so. Engaging enough that I did read thru all the way to the end!

Jessica Christ series, books 1 & 2. It's about God's daughter Jessica Christ (Yep!). Supposed to be a satire, but more like a YA fantasy. Book 1 is funny, book 2 not so hot. The saving grace of this type of "books" is that they are really short.

The Rights of the Reader, by Daniel Pennac. Author is a French teacher. Some interesting perspectives on getting younsters to want to read on their own.

Book Love, by Debbie Tung. So Cute! Comics by and for book lovers. Highly recommend if you love reading books.

On to Month 2 of 2019!
