Am not sleepy at all, and my appetite is even more awake – darn!

I went to see American Dreamz this PM. Not funny, slow and bit boring. What a waste of the satire premise and infallible Hugh Grant. Well, what you gonna do, you know. It has to rain so it rains.

I did read two interesting articles on today’s New York Time Magazine. One is about Freud’s theory about how a dictator replaces the drug, alcohol or love as a means to intoxicate our super-I so that we can be more at ease with ourselves. Very intriguing!

The other one explains that our genes, not our personality/characterstics, decide who is more resilient. The article is actually quite long-winded. I would have preferred a one-paragraph synopsis. Oh well.

And there are three new books that interest me:

This is written by the author who wrote the unfortunate events series (which I never read, yet).

Each chapter is named for an adverb (e.g. immeidately, judgementally etc.). One quote from the book, copied from NYT:

A certain kind of uncritical love is like saltwater taffy: “Somebody offers it on a day when you have nothing to do, and most likely you’ll take it and put it in your mouth. It unites us, saltwater taffy, but whose favorite is it? Who likes it best? Just about nobody. So why do we eat it?”

Pretty brilliant, isn’t it??

This book is written by a New Yorker correspondent who works in China about China. [The ever so smart EP told me what “Oracle Bones” means – which I did not know/realize – so thanks hon. ; ) ]

And this, is a personal indulge, of course.

chic 回複 悄悄話 問好,問好!(zt) : )

It actually takes me forever as well to finish a book - so easily distracted...
nymph 回複 悄悄話 我現在看書的效率很低,每次看了你的書單都想找來看,可是知道這個幾乎是mission impossible, :))
