The Marketplace section of NPR (National Public Radio) has been doing this program called “Live from China”. This past week the topic is “Meet the Gao Family” – it’s about the daily life of a Shanghai "middle class" family.
Here’s the link to the website. Marketplace of NPR
The segment usually runs between 830 and 900 in the AM and it’s most fascinating. It’s remarkably real – there were moments when I felt like I was not sitting in my car in an American highway but rather I was with the people featured on the show, observing their day-to-day routines. (Like a magical wand bringing me to a long lost friend in an instant.) It has a Chinese-style/infused Western perspective. (I wonder what exactly is my own perspective??)
If/when you check out the website, do try the two photo galleries – I specifically like the first one – feels intimate.
