Gardener

I bought 10 shrubs today. I was going to plant them along the side of the house. I only managed to dug 4 holes today. The soil is so bad. I kept digging out bricks and stones. I will finish it this weekend.

I remembered the days of planting trees when I was a kid. We had to do it once in a while in elementary school. I was in 4th grade. It was the beginning of the economic reform. We were pretty tired of hole digging so the teacher came up with the idea of 包產到戶. Whoever finishes can go home. We were fired up. The boys finished quickly while the girls were still laboring with the shovels. We thought we were going home. But the teacher changed her mind. We had to stay and help the girls. You can imagine how grumpy we were.

I seem to have some energy bottled up inside, waiting for an outlet. I am not reading as much as before. Physical activity interests me more these days. I registered for the company ping-pong tournament. I went to play for the first time in years to prepare for it. I twisted some muscles under the ribs. It is painful to get up, cough or even laugh. Just another sign I am getting old. The warm-up before the game is no longer optional.
