The long Labor Day Weekend has become history, again. All long weekends pass so quickly. All weekends do. Actually, every day does, nowadays...

In America, the Labor Day marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. I went to Target today and found the summer theme gone to the back/clearance corner. The orange theme has taken over. "Here I come, along with maple leaves, pumpkins, ghosts, and turkeys."

The weather during the past weekend was fabulous - beautiful, clear, barely windy. But I could definitely feel the chill hovering in the shade, shadowing the heat of the day. It announced the entrance of fall when dusk came. I didn't like that, but I was left with no other choice, did I?

In about three weeks, the day will be shorter than the night. We will spend more time in the dark than in the light. (Sounds poetic. I have to keep the rhyme in mind when I am in the mood for a more literary entry.) My boys will have to be more domestic because it can be too cold or too dark to play outside. Come to think of it, the rainy season will start pretty soon, and we'll set our time back for one hour. All these things happen in fall.

Fall has become my least liked season. In the United States, this season is always associated with orange and brown, which, for me, is such a wary combination. And I never am fond of ghosts and costumes, which takes the fun and kick out of it, too.

When I was in Beijing, fall is my favorite because it offers a nicer weather than any other season does. It doesn't get very windy like the spring does. You don't get scorched by the summer heat. The air is not so polluted as winter when the heating of the whole city is cranked up. Oh, I miss Beijing's fall. And I miss Beijing, period.
