大學畢業後要不要讀研？

最近女兒大學最好朋友兼現在的roommate L 要走了，去U.Pen的Wharton讀MBA.女兒周末回家，又舊話重提：should I do MBA or not?

先給點女兒的background: 東部大學本科畢業後，因想家回到灣區在top inverstment bank工作，後又跳槽到舊金山一家 private equity firm. 喜歡本職工作和公司，當然收入也不錯，勝過學工程出身的老爹和老媽。

這裏的父母們以後也會麵臨同樣的問題吧，那就現在先幫俺們出出主意，練練兵哈。

下麵是女兒自己列的 pros and cons:
Pros:
- it's fun: Top business schools have a lot fun travel programs, for example: climb a mountain in Africa.
- build better network: Graduates from top schools will be the future bankers and CEO, CFOs.
- better career path: With banking experience, after MBA (from top schools), auto promote to VP.

Cons:
- expensive: 200k for 2 years
- time consuming: 2 years, she already has an ideal job. Why bother?
- severe competition: HYP MBA programs are almost impossible to get in, anything less is not worth it as she is already better off than many MBAs from lesser programs.

Is it possible to become a VP without MBA? Yes, but more difficult. You have to work hard to get promoted. With MBA, you get it automatically.

Thanks for your comments. We are in the west coast. she wants to go to one in the east coast, even though she did her undergradulate in east coast.

You can be anyone even you don't have an MBA. You have to have a skill and then go to MBA program if you think you have the requirements and possess the characteristics for a leader. Then to get an MBA is definitively a plus for your career. To get into MBA program, you can certainly build up networking. UP Wheaton is a good school, but how about west coast like Stanford, USC, etc. They are more liberal and certainly more susceptible to foreigners especially USC. Just my persoanl opinion.
