The government would gain much more control over the population througha controlled deflationary depression than with either stagflation orhyperinflation.

Stagflation would only be temporary do to thefact that since our economy is based on selling and buying that whichwe do not need, the lack of spending would destroy jobs and businessesin short order.

Hyperinflation is not likely because thegovernment would have to find a way to increase incomes or theinflating money supply would merely stay in the financial systemcausing hyperstagflation. Also, destroying the currency throughhyperinflation would only hurt the declining confidence of the publicin government policy.

In a controlled deflationary depression, the government could maintain confidence in the currency. They thencould control the populace through government programs as in the 1930's.

So, will it be stagflation, hyperinflation, or a deflationary depression?

Smokey guesses "none of the above."

Is there a financial term for "total chaos"?
