My dear friends:

On Monday, May 12, a major earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, jolted southwestern Sichuan Province, China, my home country. Numerous earthquakes and aftershocks followed in the same area. Thanks God, my relatives are safe. However, according to the latest reports, the death toll reached 20,000 today, and that toll has continued to rise dramatically as rescue teams reach the most affected areas. More than 15,000 people are still trapped under debris and another 102,000 were injured, including many kids, seniors and women. As many as 4.9 million homes have been destroyed, and there are reports that almost five million people are homeless.
