天有不測風雲 - 修車之煩

I have had this "vantage" car MB 300SDL for awhile and not much trouble at all. A few months ago I noticed a small fuel leak from the end of one fuel lines (6 copper made of alloy material) near distributor inside of engine body, when engine was running. The leak was indeed not bad. I could live with it for years no problem but it just smells bad. I had a MB shop checked and they quote it for $250.

After research and talked to dealer parts guy, I realized a rubber o-ring could be hardened so most likely a simple thing. I decided DIM. I bought the o-ring for $1.50 and today, Saturday morning, I had time so did.

First, I took out the fuel shut off level (if engine can't shut down by key, pressing this level will cut off diesel fuel supply to force the engine stop. This is a special character of diesel engine, aka run-off). When I took the level out, I didn't notice any spring or positioning mark should be needed. Only about 20 minutes I removed the fuel line distributor and replaced the hardened o-ring. After I reversed everying, I was laughing inside of me - aha, mechanic, you are not easy to make money out of me...done.

I hold the key and plug it into the master switch, a-n-d t-u-r-n, cranking, pupupupu... oops, engine won't start? Try again, the same. Reexamined everything, no error. The engine just won't start.

Man, what can I do? Mechanic, you deserve... I need to talk to you Monday. Sigh.
