Amy was a kindergartener in her old school. She was doing very well there. The teachers and students love her and she was very happy at her old school. However, she had to move to a new school with me.
Amy and her sister Sarah came with me when I came to the new job. Sarah was in her spring break at the time. The first week in the new city was spring break time too. So Sarah and Amy stayed at an hotel. Their mom also came for a little help. I could be able to go to work right after I came to the new job because of this. It is grateful to them.
I went to the county education board for school information. Amy was assigned to a school which is new and good. When I took Amy to her new school, I met the principal and asked if Amy could enter the first grade. The principal hesitated becasue he did not know Amy before and he suggested that Amy at first enter the kindergarten for evaluation. Amy was also very excited for entering the first grade. She is proud of herself of her achievments in her old school and she was the all star students there.
I met the principal two days after when I sent Amy to her school. The principal told me that Amy's new teacher told her that Amy is excellent in reading. After evaluation of her math, they would make the decision. On Friday, I got a call from the principal. I was informed that Amy did excellent in the evaluation and she would be in the first grade in the following week. The teacher is Mr D.
I sent Amy to her school the next monday. I met Mr. D. We talked a little bit of time. He got Amy a helper and asked Amy's picture while I do not have at that moment. He explained to me about what they are doing and what he would expected.
I asked Amy how she feel in the first grade. She told me that she is fine. She could answer all the questions right. She met a friend she had met in the ice rink. That is the best part at first. To have a friend she met outside school is very exciting. Her helper did not come at the first couple of days because she was sick.
Amy went to after school right after her school ends. The after school is really nice. The teachers over there are college students. The afer school program is expensive and I need to pay more than $250 a month. But the programs are good. Each week, amy could go for swimming twice. She likes swimming so much. Other than swimming, the most enjoyable activity is connecting four. She is very good at it and she could beat almost everyone except her big sister.
I met her school principal a week later in a children's musium. he told me that Mr. D told him that Amy is bright. The first grade is the right place for her. He told me that only one time that Amy was upset because she did not spell one word "quickly" right. Amy spelled out the word "quickly" to him right in our conversation. She has a incredible memory.
I was told that the town has a gift program and asked the principal some details about that. He told me that Amy will have no problem to get into the gifted program although it is very selective, and only 8 kids per grade in the whole county.
Besides of the pain of moving, I am happy that Amy has a new school and new teacher. They are good and Amy likes it.
