Speeking is a skill, just like swimming. I am exploring the similarities between stuttering and swimming.

What is the cause of stutter?
There is no definite answer to the cause of stuttering. Currently in the US is exploring genetic traits and neurophysiological roots by using morden technological methods.
My view of stuttering is quite different. I believe that I stutter because I did not learn the right way to speak. Acutally, most of kids have a period of disfluency during 3 to 5 years old. At that period of time, mental development is very fast, however, their language is not adequate to express themselves. Most of children enventually outgrow this disfluence natually with increasing language expressing capability. Some kids maintain stuttering for a longer period of time. However, if there is no fear, shame associated with their disfluency, most of them can still outgrow this problem. If parents are so concerned about the stuttering, and if somebody is making fun of the kids who stutter, kids with stuttering will get nervous, feel fear, shame. At this point, the kid will pay more attention to his speech. Becasue speech is a effortless action, too much attention will definitely cause more stress. Stress and anxiety will make speaking more difficult. Stress and anxiety will unnecessarily tighten speech faculties and distort speech pattern. With time, this will become a habit.
